FAQ about Yoga@Work:
How can I generate interest for Yoga@Work?
Schedule an introductory Yoga@Work class to determine employees level of interest. Advertise the class widely through email, posters and announcements at staff meetings. Encourage employees to sign up in advance and commit to attending the class. Once employees have a Yoga@Work class and are able to experience the benefits, they will be interested in taking weekly classes offered in the work place.
When is the best time to offer a class?
Depending on employee needs, a class may be offered at any time.
A before-work class can help employees begin their day in a relaxed, yet alert state of mind.
A mid-day class during the lunch hour can help revitalize and rejuvenate employees for the rest of the work day.
An after-work class can help de-stress employees after a hectic day and enable them to leave work with a positive outlook.
What are the space requirements?
Approximately 20 square feet per participant is recommended. Any room where furniture is easily moved is ideal. An enclosed, quiet space is preferable to an open area.
Is any special equipment needed?
No. Employees may prefer to bring a yoga or exercise mat, blanket or towel to place on the floor beneath them. A firm cushion will make sitting on the floor more comfortable.
What should employees wear?
It is possible to practice yoga in work attire, provided the clothing is not too tight. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended.
Will employees need to shower after class?
No. Typically employees will not sweat during a yoga class. The goal is not to give employees a work out, but to bring awareness and movement to each part of the body. In this way, tension is released while muscles become stronger and more flexible.
